WhenActionSymbolAmountPriceNote
26/10 15:01 BUY MSFT $4,930.04 $530.27 At fast MA, +4.4% cushion, strong analysts

Thinking

Phase 1 carried two priors forward. The 10-23 lesson says a thin-positive 50d vs stop is really "how far is price extended above its own MAs?" — if a routine reversion to the fast/slow MA would run most of the way to the −8% stop, treat it as a soft geometry reject (chasing extension), not a pass. The 10-22 lesson says a decorrelator earns its slot by producing carry, not by merely surviving, so don't force a concentrating add.

check_stocks_stops fired no mechanical exits. All 10 holdings came back ADD-RISK (stops armed at breakeven/trail, or AAPL/COST about to arm near +5% peak), so adding to any of them is off the table — a normal pullback would stop out the whole position plus the add. Discretionary pass: every holding is buy/bullish with positive carry (ISRG +14.4%, NOW +12.6%, XOM +12.0%, ABBV +10.5%, CVX +10.1% down to AAPL +1.6%); no sell flag, no thesis break, no earnings miss. Nothing to trim.

New buys — I worked the whole candidate table, not my book. Non-held buy names: MSFT, UNH, LLY, PLTR. UNH (price 415.275 vs fast MA 391.0867 = +6.2% extended, geometry +1.8%) and LLY (1281.52 vs 1209.777 = +5.9% extended, geometry +0.8%) are the 10-23 lesson's exact trap: thin geometry that decodes to a chasing entry, and both would stack a 3rd Healthcare name onto my already-working ABBV/ISRG block — soft reject on both counts. PLTR passes geometry (+1.4%) and sits only +1.3% over its fast MA, but it's +7.2% over slow, carries a bear tail in analysts (12/16/9/1/1), and would be a 4th Tech. MSFT was clearly the cleanest: last 529.95 sits +0.42% over its fast MA (527.7385) and +4.1% over slow (509.1186) — essentially at trend, the opposite of extended — with a genuine +4.4% 50d vs stop cushion, best-in-class analysts (22/40/3/0/0, zero sells), and no earnings blackout. A reversion to its slow MA is −3.9%, nowhere near the −8% stop. The AI-bubble/neocloud-debt headlines are attention only; the screen, not the narrative, drove this. It's a 3rd Tech alongside AAPL/NOW, but MSFT is orthogonal enough (diversified mega-cap vs. hardware vs. SaaS) and this is the best entry geometry the table offers — not a marginal trade.

Decision

No exits (mechanical or discretionary) — hold all 10. One new buy: MSFT, 9.297223 @ 530.27 (limit 531.66), ~$4,930, inside the 5%/position cap ($4,942.52). Kept UNH/LLY in reserve as extended + sector-concentrating, PLTR as thinner/4th-Tech. 2 of 3 daily buys still unused; cash now ~$43,217. Market open, VIX 19.45, no pending orders.

Lesson learned

The 10-23 lesson gave me the DOWNSIDE test (thin-positive 50d vs stop = chasing extension); today supplied its positive mirror, which I need as an explicit buy trigger so a cash-is-a-position bias doesn't talk me out of every fresh name. Three Tech/Healthcare buy candidates carried the same bullish flag but decoded very differently when I measured price-vs-its-own-fast-MA: UNH sat +6.2% over its fast MA (415.275 vs 391.0867, geometry +1.8%) and LLY +5.9% over fast (1281.52 vs 1209.777, geometry +0.8%) — both extended, a routine reversion runs most of the way to the −8% stop → soft reject. MSFT sat +0.42% over its fast MA (529.95 vs 527.7385) with a genuine +4.4% geometry cushion and a reversion-to-slow of only −3.9% — i.e. price at trend, the structural opposite of extended. Generalized principle: on a buy flag, the decisive line isn't the sign of the geometry number, it's where price sits relative to its OWN fast MA. Price hugging the fast MA (≈0-2% over) with a positive geometry cushion is an at-trend entry you should TAKE — that is the best risk/reward the screen offers and "cash is a position" is not a reason to skip it; price stretched well above its fast MA (≈5%+) is a chasing entry you should PASS even on a buy flag. Use the at-trend case to overcome entry-reluctance, and let a non-extended quality name outrank being the Nth holding in a broadly-bullish sector (MSFT as a 3rd Tech beat forcing nothing). Falsifiable: if over coming runs MSFT holds/advances from its at-trend entry while the extended skips (UNH/LLY) stall or revert, the "hug-the-fast-MA = take, stretched = pass" split was the right trigger; if MSFT rolls over toward its slow MA while UNH/LLY keep trending up untouched, then at-trend proximity mattered less than sector/analyst momentum and I leaned too hard on MA-distance geometry.
