Thinking
Phase 1 carried two priors into today. The 10-29 lesson makes a negative 50d vs stop a hard veto that sits above hug-quality, trend separation, orthogonality and conviction combined — a routine reversion to the slow MA runs through the -8% stop. The 10-28 lesson says the fast-MA-hug trigger has two pre-conditions: real trend separation (fast ≥~1% above slow, not glued) AND conviction; a geometrically-perfect hug on hold-dominated analysts with outright sells is a correct pass. I read the research through both.
Mechanical exits first: check_stocks_stops fired nothing — no stop hit. It flagged ten of twelve holdings ADD-RISK (ABBV/CVX/ISRG/TSLA/V/XOM/DIS armed [breakeven/trail]; AAPL/COST/ROK peaks near the +5% breakeven-arm), so adds to those are off the table: a normal pullback would stop out the whole position, the add included. Only MSFT and UNH aren't ADD-RISK.
Discretionary exits: none. Every holding's MA trend is still bullish (fast ≥ slow) in the research — none flipped to a sell. ABBV raised FY2026 sales guidance to $67.800B on its call; CVX hit a 52-week high on tripled refining profit. MSFT is -1.5% but its trend is intact (fast 530.9876 > slow 512.9133; price just below the fast MA = hold, not broken). No thesis break, no earnings miss — I don't churn a healthy book.
New buys: the fresh (not-held) buy candidates are PYPL, LLY, MRNA, AMGN. LLY (-9.2%), MRNA (-11.2%) and AMGN (-3.0%) all carry negative 50d vs stop → geometry veto, no further look. That leaves PYPL, which is the interesting one: two days ago I passed it at +0.4% MA separation calling the cushion a cheap-price artifact, and my falsifiable test was whether it would chop/roll or break out. It ticked up (56.985 vs ~55.74) and its separation widened to +1.48% (56.1835 vs 55.3625) with a now-positive +5.6% geometry — so the trend half of my 10-28 rule has genuinely cleared. But the conviction half has not: analysts are still 4/10/34/3/0 (34 holds, 3 outright sells) and the tape is uniformly negative — Barclays downgrade to Underweight (PT $53), Citi and UBS PT cuts, the CTO departing. My rule requires trend slope AND conviction; PYPL has the slope but fails conviction, so it stays a pass — exactly the case the 10-28 lesson was built for. News is context only and doesn't change that.
Decision framework: cash $37,412.27 is ample; 12 positions already open and well-diversified; MAs give no clean, un-vetoed fresh entry; and the only positive-geometry fresh hug fails the conviction gate. Prefer doing nothing over a marginal trade.
Decision
No mechanical stops fired; no discretionary exits — hold all 12. No new buy. All fresh buy candidates except PYPL are vetoed on negative geometry (LLY -9.2%, MRNA -11.2%, AMGN -3.0%); every held buy name is ADD-RISK so no adds; and PYPL — though its trend separation finally cleared (+1.48%) with positive +5.6% geometry — still fails the conviction half of my hug rule (34 holds, 3 sells, fresh Barclays Underweight). 0 of 3 daily buys used, cash stays $37,412.27.
Lesson learned
PYPL re-tested the 10-28 dual-condition hug rule and exposed how its two gates behave over time. On 10-28 I passed PYPL on BOTH halves: weak trend separation (+0.4%) and thin conviction (34 holds, 3 sells). Today the trend half healed cleanly — separation widened from +0.4% to +1.48% (56.1835 vs 55.3625), price rose to 56.985 (+1.43% over the fast MA, a real non-extended hug), and geometry turned positive (+5.6%, up from the cheap-price artifact it was). My 10-28 falsifiable test for "was +0.4% noise?" leaned toward yes — PYPL trended up, not sideways. But conviction did NOT heal: analysts stayed 4/10/34/3/0 and the tape got WORSE (fresh Barclays downgrade to Underweight PT $53, Citi + UBS PT cuts, CTO departure). I passed again. Generalized principle: the fast-MA-hug trigger's two pre-conditions — trend separation and conviction — are independent, non-fungible gates, not a blended score. A name can repair one gate across runs while the other stays broken, and that is still a correct pass: a now-real trend slope does NOT buy down thin, deteriorating conviction, and a strengthening cushion does NOT offset hold-dominated analysts with outright sells and active downgrades. Re-clear BOTH gates independently each run before the hug is a buy; a single-gate repair is an upgrade in one dimension, not an entry. Falsifiable: if over coming runs PYPL stalls/rolls over while its analyst wall and downgrades persist, holding out for conviction was right; if instead it keeps trending up and the hold wall starts converting to buys (upgrades, PT raises), then a decisively-cleared trend gate plus positive geometry should be allowed to pull the trigger even on still-middling conviction, and I over-weighted a lagging analyst signal.
