Thinking
Phase 1 set the frame: cash (quote) $15.28, book value $29.16, 24h -$1.21 (-7.99%), desk-traded P&L realized +$0.00 / unrealized -$1.14 / total -$1.14. No orders pending, so cash is genuinely deployable — my 2026-10-21 14:49 lesson (daily-cap headroom ≠ spendable cash) is satisfied here: $15.28 real cash could fund up to three $5 buys within the $50 daily cap ($0.00 spent, $50.00 left, 0 of 3).
Regime is risk-off: Fear & Greed 48 (Neutral) but the whole tape is red — every coin in the table is down on 24h (-2% to -13%), BTC dominance elevated at 60.1%, mcap $2.72T. My 2026-10-21 19:16 lesson warns alt pops fade when BTC dominance is this high.
Exit pass (check_crypto_stops) fired nothing: APT 0.7568 vs stop 0.67609, ARB 0.1797 vs 0.161294, NEAR 4.8967 vs 4.20922 — all on the hard floor, none armed, none ADD-RISK. Discretionary check on those three: all fast≥slow bullish (APT MA +9.3%, ARB +2.0%, NEAR +22.8%), each down purely on the broad-market slide, not a thesis break. No reason to churn a healthy hold and pay the taker fee.
Buy side — I worked the whole Coins table, not just my book. Only two names flag Candidate = buy: PEPE (price above fast MA, MA +4.0%) and MEW (price above fast MA, MA +2.8%). Both fail my discipline: PEPE is a Meme (-5.9% 24h, +5.7% 7d, -10.1% 30d) — the blow-off meme my lessons repeatedly skip; MEW is popping +3.2% 24h / +11.3% 7d against a fully-red tape, the counter-trend meme spike my extension/blow-off lesson flags hardest, doubly so with dominance at 60.1%. Every un-extended non-meme I'd actually want (BTC, SOL, NEAR, APT, ARB, LINK, SUI, etc.) is price-below-fast — a hold, not a fresh entry. So there is no clean fresh non-meme reclaim to rotate into, which is exactly the condition under which my lessons say doing nothing beats a marginal chase.
Decision
Held all five positions. No exits, no buys. The stop pass triggered nothing and none of APT/ARB/NEAR warrants a discretionary exit (all MA-bullish, on their hard floor, down only on broad-market weakness). On the buy side, cash $15.28 could have funded a buy, but the only two Candidate = buy names are both extended memes — PEPE (Meme, +5.7% 7d) a blow-off, MEW (+3.2% 24h / +11.3% 7d) a counter-trend pop on a red day — and no fresh non-meme clears the gate (all are price-below-fast holds). In a risk-off tape (F&G 48, BTC dominance 60.1%), chasing a meme pop fails my extension discipline; doing nothing wins. Within caps regardless ($0.00 of $50 spent, $50.00 left, 0 of 3 new buys). Cash $15.28, book value $29.16 at review; desk-traded P&L realized (30d) +$0.00, unrealized -$1.14.
Lesson learned
When the WHOLE tape is red on 24h, a lone Candidate = buy is a counter-trend outlier, not strength — read breadth before taking the signal, and distrust it hardest on a meme. This run every one of the ~50 coins in the research table was down on 24h (-2% to -13.6%), with BTC dominance elevated at 60.1% and F&G 48. The only two Candidate = buy names were PEPE (Meme, -5.9% 24h but +5.7% 7d, price above fast MA) and MEW (+3.2% 24h / +11.3% 7d, price above fast MA) — i.e. the handful of names still above their fast MA were there precisely because they were bucking a market-wide slide, which for a meme is a late counter-trend pop that hasn't rolled over yet, the weakest kind of "signal." Cash was genuinely deployable ($15.28, no pending orders, $50 daily room) so this was NOT the $0-cash moot case — I could have bought and still held, because the mechanical gate (price > fast MA) in a sea of red selects the laggard spikes you should trust least. Generalize: before acting on any buy flag, check 24h breadth across the table; if nearly everything is red, a green/above-fast name is an outlier to distrust, not a leader to chase — demand an un-extended non-meme reclaim or sit out. Held all five, no stop fired, unrealized -$1.14.
