Thinking
Phase 1 first: cash $32,244.61, equity $98,642.61, 13 open positions, 0 of 3 new buys used, no pending orders. My 10-20 and 10-21 lessons both centre on factor-orthogonality — the TLN/VST Utilities decorrelator pair, and AAPL as the AI-capex-orthogonal Tech re-entry.
The exit pass closed TLN on its breakeven stop (348.74 hit, filled 14.066023 @ 346.53, was +0.1%). That is the run's headline event and it speaks straight to the 10-20 lesson: I deployed a SECOND Utility (TLN) alongside VST on the thesis that a modest drawdown in the first name wasn't evidence the sector was wrong. TLN never lost money — it peaked +5.3% then round-tripped to a breakeven stop-out — while VST still sits −2.9% with a bullish MA. So the pair didn't bleed together into losses (the falsifiable downside case did NOT trigger), but the "leader" gave back everything. The Utilities decorrelator delivered no net carry.
Discretionary exit review of the 12 survivors: AAPL +1.1%, ABBV +9.3%, COST +1.3%, CVX +6.9%, DIS +5.6%, ISRG +9.0%, NOW +11.4%, TSLA +4.5%, V +3.8%, XOM +8.1% — all bullish, theses intact, hold. MRK is the one to scrutinise: research flags it sell on a bearish 20d/50d crossover (145.647 < 146.5582, just −0.6%), yet price 152.77 is above BOTH MAs, it's +4.9% / peak +5.0% and about to arm its breakeven stop. A −0.6% slow-MA artifact with price still above both MAs is not a broken thesis; the ratchet is one tick from locking the gain. Dumping a +4.9% winner here would be churn against a marginal signal — hold and let the stop work. VST −2.9% keeps a bullish MA (20d 150.4785 > 50d 145.4972) and an intact hard stop at 142.03; thesis alive, hold.
New buys (0 of 3 used, 5% cap = $4,932.98): I worked the whole candidate table, not just my book. Of the fresh buy names, geometry disqualifies most — LLY −1.0%, MRNA −22.6% (extended +25.5% MA), WBD −0.5%, PLTR −0.3% all have the 50d sitting through the initial stop (a routine pullback stops me out), and TLN just exited this very run so re-buying same-day is churn. That leaves AMGN as the ONLY geometry-passing fresh name (+1.6%, price 445.69 > fast 420.006). But AMGN drops into my already-3-deep Healthcare block (ABBV, ISRG, MRK) — and MRK is the name rolling over to a sell signal right now. Adding a 4th HC name as one is weakening concentrates exactly the idiosyncratic sector risk my 10-20/10-21 lessons tell me not to stack, and AMGN's analyst tape is lukewarm (6/12/20/3/1, mostly hold). Adding to AAPL (held, +3.3% geometry, clean) would double a one-day-old position before it has proven anything. Neither clears the "prefer doing nothing over a marginal trade" bar. Macro is calm-ish (VIX 16.68 falling, curve +0.32%) but 10Y at 5.12% is a headwind — no reason to force risk on.
Decision
One mechanical exit: TLN closed on its breakeven stop (14.066023 @ 346.53). No discretionary exits — MRK held despite its sell flag (price above both MAs, +4.9%, breakeven arming; a −0.6% crossover isn't a thesis break), VST held (bullish MA, intact stop). No new buys: the only geometry-passing fresh candidate (AMGN) sits in my overweight, weakening Healthcare block with soft analyst support — a marginal, concentrating trade. All 3 buys kept in reserve; cash $32,244.61 preserved for a cleaner orthogonal setup. Prefer nothing over a forced trade.
Lesson learned
The 10-20 "second decorrelator in the leading sector is legitimate, not forbidden concentration" call resolved today, and it resolved in a way that refines the rule rather than confirming it. TLN (the 2nd Utility, bought 10-20 @ 347.70 alongside VST) closed on its breakeven stop this run (peak +5.3% → filled 346.53, net ~0%), while VST still sits −2.9% with a bullish MA. The falsifiable DOWNSIDE case from 10-20 (VST + TLN bleeding together into stop-outs) did NOT trigger — they didn't lose money together — but neither did the bull case: the "leader" TLN round-tripped to zero carry and the pair delivered nothing net. Generalized principle: a second quality name in the leading decorrelator sector clears the concentration test, but "didn't stop out together as losses" is too weak a bar to call it a WIN — the real test is net carry. A decorrelator pair that round-trips to breakeven (TLN) while the first name stalls (VST) tied up ~5% of equity for a full cycle and returned nothing; that capital would have done more held as dry powder for a cleaner orthogonal setup. So when the first same-sector holding is merely flat-to-underwater with NO fresh momentum (VST below its fast MA, TLN already at peak+ geometry), prefer RESERVING the buy over adding the second name — a decorrelator earns its slot by producing carry, not merely by not blowing up. This also validated today's restraint: the only geometry-passing fresh name (AMGN) was a 4th stack onto a weakening Healthcare block, so I took nothing and kept all 3 buys. Falsifiable: if over the next runs a reserved-cash posture lets me enter a genuinely orthogonal name with real momentum (price leading its fast MA, not round-tripping) that out-carries what a forced 2nd-same-sector add would have returned, net-carry-not-survival was the right frame; if quality fresh candidates stay absent run after run and cash sits idle while held decorrelators would have recovered, I was too quick to downgrade "doesn't blow up" and should weight sector-leadership persistence more.
