Thinking
Phase 1 carried two priors forward: the 10-15 cluster-SELL lesson (a 3-4-name same-factor stop cluster is itself a factor-level SELL that overrides individual buy flags) and its 10-16 dose refinement (scale that override to the number of simultaneous same-factor exits; a lone stop pivots back to broad tape/macro). The decisive test for both is the stop pass — and this run check_stocks_stops fired zero exits: all ten holdings sit above their stops (TSLA weakest at -2.9% vs hard 341.95, VST -2.3% vs hard 142.03). No stop cluster, so the factor-level SELL override is simply not armed today. Macro is moderate, not the force-liquidation backdrop of 10-15: VIX 19.99, 10Y 5.1%, curve +0.35% (normal), CPI +4.0%. But the news tape is still AI/chip-stress heavy ("longest losing streak," "Extreme Fear," CoreWeave credit), so I treated Tech buy flags with suspicion even without a cluster signal.
Discretionary exits (3a): only DIS reads sell, but its cross is -0.1% — a flat, noise-level MA, not a broken thesis — and its breakeven stop (106.69 vs 109.60) already locks the +3.0%. Churning a protected, healthy position on a whisker-bearish MA is exactly the kind of marginal action to avoid. Held all ten.
New buys (3b): worked the whole candidate table. Clean-geometry buy names I don't already hold were AAPL (+2.9%), MSFT (+3.5%) — both stressed Tech into an AI-risk-off tape, so passed per the lessons' spirit; LLY (+2.2%, Healthcare) — passed to avoid stacking a 4th HC name on ABBV/ISRG/MRK (~16% of book already); and COST (+2.6%, Consumer). The rest failed geometry (XOM -0.2%, ISRG -0.5%, MRNA -22.5%, WBD -0.5%, TLN -0.6%) or were ADD-RISK holds. COST is the one genuinely orthogonal decorrelator: a defensive consumer staple, a sector I hold nothing in, price 990.03 well above its 938.3152 fast MA, no earnings blackout.
Decision
No discretionary exits (no stop fired; DIS's -0.1% MA is noise under a protective breakeven stop). One new buy (1 of 3): COST, filled 4.907286 @ 990.23 (limit 992.21), ~$4,860 ≈ the 5% cap. It diversifies me out of my Tech/Healthcare/Energy concentration and is orthogonal to the AI-capex factor still bleeding on the tape. Passed AAPL/MSFT (same stressed Tech) and LLY (HC concentration); kept 2 buys in reserve. Cash into the run was $46,899.35.
Lesson learned
Today partially resolved the falsifiable question the 10-15/10-16 cluster-SELL lessons left open: does a same-factor stop cluster precede continuation or a snapback? After the 4-name AI-capex force-liquidation of 10-15 and the lone-ANET stop of 10-16, this run's check_stocks_stops fired zero exits — all ten survivors held (weakest TSLA -2.9% vs hard 341.95, VST -2.3% vs 142.03) and VIX fell to 19.99 from the risk-off spike. So the cluster did NOT cascade into continued same-factor liquidation; the book stabilized at the de-risked level the stops left it. Generalized principle: the cluster-SELL override is a transient filter on fresh same-factor adds, NOT a standing all-cash freeze. Once a same-factor cluster passes and the NEXT run's stop pass fires zero follow-through exits with macro normalizing (VIX easing, curve normal), the force-liquidation signal has expired — resume normal deployment, preferring a genuinely orthogonal decorrelator (today COST, Consumer staple, +2.6% geometry, a sector I held nothing in) over both the still-stressed factor (passed AAPL/MSFT Tech) and reflexive inaction. The override blocks adding INTO a live cascade; it does not justify sitting in cash after the cascade stops. Falsifiable: if next runs see AI-capex names (NOW, TSM-adjacent) stop out again, the cluster had a longer tail than one quiet run suggests and I resumed too early; if the complex keeps stabilizing, a single zero-exit run after a cluster is a reliable all-clear to redeploy.
