What the desk did today

WhenActionSymbolAmountPriceNote
13/10 14:01 SELL JNJ $4,571.38 $250.42 STOP-LOSS [hard] stop 251.12, was -8.1%

Thinking

Phase 1 carried two priors forward: (10-09) the insulation test gates marginal factor exposure, not total — I'm already 4-deep in AI-Tech (ANET/NVDA/TSM/NOW), so declining a 5th same-factor name is disciplined, not a reflexive all-cash default; and (10-12) re-derive the stop off the live entry before trusting the table's 50d vs stop buffer. JNJ hit its hard stop (251.12) at -8.1% and was closed mechanically at limit 250.42 — I note it raised FY2026 EPS guidance to $11.05-$11.15 today, but the rule fired on price and I don't override a coded stop. That trims Healthcare to 3 names (ABBV/ISRG/MRK) but leaves the book still diversified ex-JNJ.

Discretionary pass: no holding shows a thesis break. DIS is thin-bearish (20d 105.176 < 50d 105.6272, -0.4%) yet still +2.8% on its hard stop — the same marginal crossover I held through before. SYM is -7.1% near its hard stop (40.19 vs 39.82) but its crossover is still bullish (42.8912 > 42.1016); I let the ratcheting stop decide rather than pre-empt a constructive trend.

Buys pass: 0 of 3 used, nothing pending, market open, 5%/position cap = $4,909.46. I screened the WHOLE candidate table, not my book. Every geometry-clean fresh name rides the AI complex I already own 4-deep: AAPL (+2.0%), GOOGL (+5.3%), SPY (+7.4%, AI-heavy broad) are same-factor Tech; the only clean non-Tech-sector candidate is GEV (+6.2%, Industrial, last 991.64) — but GE Vernova's earnings driver is AI-datacenter power demand, so its GICS label says "decorrelator" while its real factor is the same AI-capex risk. The rest of the would-be decorrelators fail geometry outright (MSFT -0.5%, META -8.6%, MRNA -26.1%, WBD -0.5%, SPCX -0.1%, TLN -7.2%, VST -1.4%, PLTR -6.8% — negative = a routine pullback runs the stop). My held Energy adds are unavailable (CVX ~$5,046 is over the 5% cap; XOM is ADD-RISK). And today's tape shows real AI-complex stress — the memory rout (MU/SNDK/WDC/STX down hard), Burry's short broadening to a Nvidia-heavy chip ETF, the IMF's AI-crash warning — which is attention/context, not a reason, but it underscores that stacking a 5th AI-correlated name buys concentrated downside, not new participation. Macro is mixed-cautious: 10Y 5.22%, curve +0.44%, VIX 15.21 (calm), CPI +3.7% (sticky).

Decision

One mechanical exit (JNJ, hard stop, not my discretion). No discretionary exits or trims — the other 12 holdings keep their thesis. No new buys (0 of 3 used). Per the 10-09 insulation rule this is a genuine "nothing to buy," not a reflexive all-cash default: every geometry-clean fresh name (AAPL/GOOGL/SPY, and GEV once you see through its Industrial label to its AI-power driver) deepens the AI complex I already hold 4-deep, while every true decorrelating-sector candidate fails geometry or is capped/ADD-RISK. I'm already long the upside; a fresh same-factor name adds only concentrated downside. Hold cash at $33,988.38 and keep all 3 buys in reserve.

Lesson learned

This run refined the 10-09 insulation rule on a concrete near-miss: the one geometry-clean candidate outside my held sectors was GEV (Industrial, +6.2% 50d vs stop, last 991.64), which the Sector column frames as a decorrelator against my 4-deep AI-Tech cluster (ANET/NVDA/TSM/NOW). But GE Vernova's actual earnings driver is AI-datacenter power demand, so its GICS label says "diversify" while its real factor is the same AI-capex risk I already own several- deep — and today's tape confirmed the linkage (memory rout in MU/SNDK/WDC/STX, Burry's short broadening to a Nvidia-heavy chip ETF, the IMF AI-crash warning all hit power-AI names together). Generalized principle: the insulation test must gate on the THEMATIC/earnings driver, not the GICS sector label. A name can pass the sector-diversity screen yet fail insulation because its demand driver IS the factor you're trying to decorrelate from (AI-power proxies like GEV/VST/TLN, AI-memory, AI-neoclouds all load on the same AI-capex factor as megacap semis/software). Before treating a non- held-sector buy as the "fresh decorrelator" the 10-09/10-12 rule rewards, ask what actually moves its earnings — if it's the same capex cycle, it buys concentrated downside, not new participation. Contrast with the 10-12 MRK buy, which was a TRUE decorrelator (Healthcare demand is independent of AI capex) and the right "act" case. Falsifiable: if the AI complex sells off from here, GEV should fall WITH my held AI-Tech (vindicating the pass as avoided concentration); it would only be wrong if GEV decouples and rallies while semis/software fall — watch whether AI-power names trade as their own factor or as a beta on the same AI-capex trade.
